Tournament Rundown - Jonesboro Open

Round 1: To say that the Jonesboro started off hot is an understatement. 8 players shot -10 or better. That feat was only accomplished by 4 players in round 2 as well as 4 players in round 3 (Ricky Wysocki being the only player to manage a -10 or better on each day). The big distance bombers really benefited from the calm first day. Ben Callaway went bogeyless on the day scoring 10 birdies and an Eagle on Day 1. Landing him in 3rd place going into Day 2. Chris Dickerson had a string of 9 straight birdies with an eagle following up that birdie train! Unfortunately, Dickerson had a couple bogeys blemishing his card as well as a double Bogey hole 18. Those few mistakes cost him a monster day as well as a spot on the lead card. Lead Card for Round 2: Ricky Wysocki, Calvin Heimburg, Ben Callaway, Drew Gibson

Round 2: Calvin and Ricky put on a display in the lead card coverage. Combining great shots with smart plays when they were in trouble. Ricky shooting -11 on the day, Calvin shooting -10. Paul McBeth was the only one to match Ricky’s hot round with an 11 under scorecard of his own. Two of the big movers on day 2 were Nikko Locastro and Matt Bell. Nikko jumped 39 spots into 19th place after shooting -8. Matt Bell shooting -9 moved up 74 spots into 44th! Lead Card for Round 3: Ricky Wysocki, Calvin Heimburg, Eagle McMahon, Paul McBeth.

Round 3: The 3rd and final round saw a 'Dream Team' lead card. The card had an insane, 1052, average rating. Again we saw Wysocki put on a clinic. Eagle shot 8 down on the back 9 to finish with a -11 day and found himself in 3rd at the tournament's conclusion. McBeth again struggled to find a rhythm but still managed a very respectable T5 finish. Heimburg who was only 1 stroke of the leader going into the day, had some putts not go his way and had few misfires off the tee. He still managed to have an 8 under round and hold on to 2nd place finish.

Storylines

  • Calvin Heimburg is a dangerous man. He's finished in the top 5 in 6/6 events that he has played so far this season.
  • Ricky Wysocki continues to stay on fire, winning now his 3rd event of the last 4. Having a bogeyless tournament...let me say that again a completely bogey free tournament, it seems the only person that can beat Ricky right now is Ricky.
  • Casey White, if you haven't been paying attention to this kid you need to be. He has finished in the top 10 in all 4 of the DGPT events since WACO. He has lead tournaments, made lead cards several times and is not slowing down
  • Paul McBeth is still producing highlights consistently in every round but has caught some tough breaks and has not seen the putts fall like he is used to. Even with the bad breaks the guy is still battling for a top spot in every tournament. It is definitely something to monitor going forward.
  • Players are definitely in mid-season form. A lot of great golf being played. This weekend, in my opinion, was the most fun tournament to watch so far this season
  • The mashers mashed. Guys like Garrett Gurthie, Drew Gibson, Calvin, Ricky, Chris Dickerson really ate this course up with their distance.

"The Usual Suspects" finishes:

  • Jeremy Koling: T67
  • Kevin Jones (pick to win): 4th
  • Garrett Gurthie: T15
  • Paul McBeth: T5
  • Eagle McMahon: 3rd
  • Emerson Keith: T46
  • Austin Hannum: T54
  • Eric Oakley: T25
