Flight Numbers

9Speed
6Glide
-3Turn
1Fade

Discraft's glide-first understable driver. The Heat debuted as the 2014 Ace Race prototype and immediately caught fire for delivering distance that most 9-speeds can't match — thanks to the highest glide in its speed class. Smaller rim, massive carry, barely any fade. It flies farther than it has any right to.

Why Throw the Heat?

🪁

Glide for Days

A glide rating of 6 is elite for a speed 9 driver. The Heat stays in the air longer than almost anything at this speed, adding free distance without needing more power. It punches above its weight class — many players report 9-speed distance that rivals their 11 and 12-speed drivers.

🔄

Effortless Hyzer-Flips

Start on hyzer and the Heat pops to flat with barely any effort. The -3 turn does the work for you, producing clean, full-flight S-curves that beginners and intermediates usually can't get from faster drivers. It's one of the best hyzer-flip discs in disc golf.

📏

Smaller Rim, Real Distance

At speed 9, the Heat's rim is noticeably narrower than a 12 or 13-speed driver. That makes it easier to grip, easier to release clean, and more comfortable for players with smaller hands. The glide compensates for the lower speed — you still get serious distance.

➡️

Controlled Turnovers

Release flat or on anhyzer and the Heat pans right in a long, drifting arc. It holds turnover angles without rolling over wildly — the 1 fade provides just enough correction to keep the disc in play. Smooth, predictable, and easy to shape.

🌲

Woods-Golf Line Shaper

The Heat excels on shaped shots through the woods where you need the disc to turn without full power. Its glide carries it forward while the understable flight bends it around obstacles. A finesse tool that rewards touch over muscle.

🏌️

Beginner Distance Breakthrough

New players who can't power faster drivers get real distance from the Heat. The understable flight and high glide turn 250-foot arms into 300-foot throwers. It's the disc that shows beginners what a full flight looks like for the first time.

Plastics

Popular

ESP

Premium • Grippy • Swirly Colors

Discraft's signature premium blend. ESP Heats fly true to the numbers with excellent grip and attractive swirl patterns. They season into even more understable lines over time. The default choice for most players.

Z Line

Premium • Durable • Slightly More Stable

Stiff, translucent, and built to last. Z Heats hold their stability longer than ESP and resist early turn. A good pick if you want the Heat's flight without it getting too flippy too fast. The most durable option.

Big Z

Premium • Gummy Feel • Bold Stamps

A softer Z blend with oversized artwork. Big Z Heats offer comfortable grip with premium durability. Flight sits between ESP and stock Z in terms of stability — a well-rounded middle ground.

Z Lite

Premium • Lightweight • Extra Flip

Z durability in lighter weights (typically 155–165g). Z Lite Heats flip earlier and glide longer — the most accessible version of the mold for slower arm speeds. Maximum distance with minimum effort.

Titanium

Premium • Solid Feel • Ultra-Premium

Discraft's top-tier premium blend with outstanding grip and durability. Titanium Heats resist wear and maintain consistent flight. A premium option for players who want the best plastic on the market.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both are understable speed-9 drivers, but the Heat (9/6/-3/1) has significantly more glide and one less point of turn than the Roadrunner (9/5/-4/1). The Heat stays in the air longer and produces bigger, sweeping carries. The Roadrunner flips harder and is better for dedicated rollers and extreme turnovers. Choose the Heat for distance and hyzer-flips; the Roadrunner for maximum flip and roller work.
The glide of 6 is the answer. Most speed-9 drivers sit at glide 4 or 5. The Heat's extra glide keeps it in the air longer, adding carry that makes it compete with 11 and 12-speed drivers for total distance. The understable turn also helps — the disc doesn't fade out early, so more of its flight time goes forward instead of sideways.
Less than almost any other 9-speed driver. The high glide and understable turn compensate for lower power. Players throwing 225–275 feet get real, full-flight drives. Even 200-foot arms see the disc flip up and glide forward. If you can throw a midrange, you can probably throw the Heat.
Z Line holds stability the longest — the stiff plastic resists wear and keeps the turn from getting more extreme over time. Titanium is close behind. ESP is grippier but beats in faster. If your ESP Heat has gotten too flippy, a fresh Z Heat puts you back to the stock flight.
Not recommended. The -3 turn and 6 glide make the Heat very wind-sensitive — headwinds will flip it over and potentially turn it into an unintentional roller. Save it for calm conditions, tailwinds, and downwind shots. For headwinds at speed 9, reach for a Valkyrie, Thunderbird, or Firebird.
Solid for it. The -3 turn puts the Heat on its edge with moderate effort, and beaten-in ESP or DX Heats flip even easier. The smaller rim makes it less aggressive on the ground than distance driver rollers, which gives you more control at shorter distances. It's a good introductory roller disc for players who haven't tried rollers before.
The Falk (9/6/-2/1) shares the same speed, glide, and fade but has one less point of turn. It's slightly more stable out of the box — easier to keep straight and better in light wind. The Heat is flippier and commits harder to turnovers. Both have massive glide for a 9-speed. Choose the Falk for controlled hyzer-flips, the Heat for more aggressive turn.
