Streamline Discs Plastics Guide

Streamline Discs Plastics Guide

Streamline Discs is the third brand in the MVP Disc Sports family, alongside MVP and Axiom. What sets Streamline apart is its single-mold construction — no GYRO overmold rim. This gives Streamline discs a more traditional, clean rim feel while using the exact same high-quality plastics as MVP and Axiom.

If you've thrown MVP Neutron or Axiom Neutron, you already know what Streamline Neutron feels like — they're identical formulations from the same factory. This guide covers every Streamline plastic option and helps you choose the right one for your game.

Quick Reference

  • Putting? Use Electron (Soft, Medium, or Firm).
  • Throwing/driving? Use Neutron (most popular) or Plasma (grippiest).
  • Maximum stability? Use Proton.
  • Approach discs that sit? Use Proton Soft.
  • Lightweight/beginner? Use Fission.
  • Night rounds? Use Eclipse — the best glow in disc golf.
  • Unique look? Choose Cosmic Neutron.

Streamline Plastic Types Explained

Streamline uses the same plastics as MVP and Axiom. The descriptions below focus on how each plastic performs specifically in Streamline's single-mold discs.

Neutron

Neutron is the flagship premium plastic across the entire MVP family — and Streamline is no exception. It's opaque, durable, and available in the widest range of bright colors. The feel and flight are identical to MVP Neutron and Axiom Neutron — the only difference is that Streamline discs are single-mold (no GYRO overmold rim). Popular Streamline discs in Neutron include the Drift, Trace, and Echo.

Proton

Proton is the translucent premium option — firmer and slightly more overstable than Neutron. The candy-colored translucent look catches sunlight beautifully. Many players find Proton runs a touch more stable out of the box, which is useful for discs you want to resist turn. Also available in Proton Soft — a gummier, more flexible variant that's popular for approach discs like the Range where you want the disc to sit and stick.

Plasma

Plasma is the grippiest premium plastic in the MVP/Axiom/Streamline lineup. It has a semi-gummy, flexible feel with a distinctive metallic sheen. Plasma tends to season slightly faster than Neutron or Proton, gradually becoming more understable with use. The grip is especially noticeable in cold or wet conditions. The Trace in Plasma is a popular choice for players who want a premium distance driver with great hand feel.

Best for: Maximum grip and hand feel. Excellent for cold/wet weather and players who like their discs to break in over time.

Electron

Electron is the baseline putting plastic — grippy, affordable, and designed for inside the circle. It has a tactile feel that grabs chains and inspires confidence. Electron wears in over time, adding glide and a more neutral flight as it seasons. Available in multiple firmness levels: Electron Firm (stiffest, favored by spin putters), Electron Medium (balanced), and Electron Soft (most flexible, best for chain-grabbing). The Pilot in Electron is one of the best putting putters available.

Fission

Fission uses imperceptible micro-bubbles in the Neutron core to produce lighter-weight discs (often 155-165g) that still feel full-sized in the hand. Lighter weight means easier distance, more glide, and a more understable flight compared to max-weight versions of the same mold. The Lift in Fission is an excellent easy-distance driver for beginners and players with slower arm speeds.

Eclipse

Eclipse is the glow plastic shared across MVP, Axiom, and Streamline — and it's widely considered the brightest, longest-lasting glow plastic in disc golf. Eclipse 2.0 charges quickly under any light and stays visible for extended night rounds. The plastic is firm and tends to fly slightly more overstable than Neutron. The Range and Pilot in Eclipse are popular glow-round essentials.

Cosmic Neutron

Cosmic Neutron is standard Neutron with a premium multi-color swirl treatment. The flight and feel are identical to regular Neutron — the difference is purely visual. Every disc has a unique swirl pattern, making them popular for collectors and custom dye projects. The Trace and Pilot in Cosmic Neutron are popular choices.

Best for: Collectors, custom dyes, and players who want Neutron performance with one-of-a-kind visuals.

How to Choose the Right Streamline Plastic

Plastic by Disc Type

  • Putters (putting): Electron Soft, Electron Medium, or Electron Firm. The Pilot is the flagship Streamline putter.
  • Putters/approach (throwing): Neutron, Proton, or Proton Soft. The Range in Proton Soft parks beautifully.
  • Midranges: Neutron is the standard. Plasma for more grip. The Echo is a straight-flying midrange favorite.
  • Fairway drivers: Neutron or Plasma. Fission for lightweight easy distance. The Drift is a beginner staple.
  • Distance drivers: Neutron, Proton, or Fission. The Trace is Streamline's go-to distance driver.

Plastic by Weather

  • Cold weather: Plasma or Electron Soft. Grippier plastics stay comfortable in the cold.
  • Hot weather: Proton or Neutron. Firmer plastics hold shape and stability in heat.
  • Wet conditions: Plasma has the best wet grip. Electron is also reliable.
  • Night rounds: Eclipse 2.0 — brightest, longest-lasting glow plastic available.

Streamline vs. MVP vs. Axiom: What's the Difference?

Same Plastics, Different Construction

  • MVP Disc Sports: The original. GYRO overmold with a matching-color rim. More gyroscopic spin from the weighted overmold. Popular molds: Volt, Reactor, Tesla, Nomad.
  • Axiom Discs: Same GYRO overmold, but with a contrasting colored rim for a two-tone look. Popular molds: Crave, Envy, Proxy, Hex, Insanity.
  • Streamline Discs: Single-mold construction — no overmold. Traditional rim feel with the same premium plastics. Popular molds: Drift, Trace, Pilot, Lift, Echo, Runway, Range.

The plastics (Neutron, Proton, Plasma, Electron, Fission, Eclipse) are identical across all three brands. What changes is the disc construction and rim feel. Some players prefer the weighted GYRO overmold of MVP/Axiom; others prefer the clean, traditional single-mold of Streamline. Try both and see which release feels better for your grip.

FAQs

Streamline is the third brand in the MVP Disc Sports family, alongside MVP and Axiom. The key difference is that Streamline discs use single-mold construction — no GYRO overmold rim. This gives Streamline discs a more traditional rim feel that some players prefer, while still using the same high-quality MVP plastics. Popular molds include the Drift, Trace, Pilot, Lift, Echo, and Runway.

Yes. Streamline uses identical plastic formulations as MVP and Axiom — Neutron, Proton, Plasma, Electron, Fission, and Eclipse are the same across all three brands. The only difference is the disc construction: MVP and Axiom use GYRO overmold technology, while Streamline uses traditional single-mold construction. See our MVP Plastics Guide and Axiom Plastics Guide for more.

The plastics are identical. The difference is the rim construction. MVP and Axiom use GYRO overmold technology — a two-piece disc with a denser overmold rim designed for more gyroscopic spin. Streamline uses single-mold construction with no overmold, giving a more traditional rim feel. Some players prefer the smoother single-mold feel of Streamline; others prefer the GYRO rim. It's personal preference.

Electron in your preferred firmness: Electron Soft for maximum grip and chain-grabbing, Electron Medium for balanced feel, or Electron Firm for a stiffer, more consistent release. The Pilot in Electron is one of the most popular Streamline putters.

The Drift (speed 7 fairway driver) is one of the most beginner-friendly Streamline discs — understable with great glide. The Lift (speed 9) in Fission is also excellent for easy distance. For a midrange, the Echo flies straight with minimal effort.

Plasma is the best premium option for cold weather — it stays grippy and flexible when temperatures drop. For putting, Electron Soft maintains its feel in the cold. Avoid Proton in winter — it can feel very stiff and slippery in low temperatures.
