The Discraft Mantis is a controllable, understable utility fairway driver rated 8/4/-2/2, and it is one of the most underrated shot-shaping discs Discraft makes. Originally released as the 2013 Ace Race disc, the Mantis holds a straight line as well as anything and gives you every shot shape in between. Powered down, it flies dead straight for a clean, controlled finish. Rip it hard on a hyzer and it flips up to flat for a beautiful hyzer-flip, or turns over into a long, sweeping S-curve for easy distance. Its low profile and modest rim feel comfortable in the hand and make it a favorite for weaving through wooded fairways, and it doubles as a great utility disc for forehand flicks, straight thumbers, and tomahawk overhead shots. For newer players it is a forgiving first distance driver that delivers a full flight without a big arm, and for experienced players it is a precise, trusted control driver. It is remarkably similar to the Innova Sidewinder, with a little extra flight consistency. When you are not sure what to throw, the Mantis is the answer.
