Flight Numbers

12Speed
6Glide
-1Turn
2Fade

The evolution of the Zeus. Originally developed as the "Zeus 2.0," the Ares adds torque resistance and an extra point of glide to the McBeth distance driver lineup — built for players who wanted a Zeus they could throw harder without losing the line.

Why Throw the Ares?

⚔️

Zeus DNA, More Fight

The Ares keeps the Zeus's comfortable hand feel and shallow rim but adds more torque resistance. You can throw it harder, into wind, and with aggressive angles without watching it flip off the line.

🪁

Extra Glide Over the Zeus

A glide bump from 5 to 6 means the Ares stays in the air longer and carries farther before fading. That extra float adds distance without needing more arm speed — the disc does more of the work.

📐

Power Flex Specialist

Release on hyzer and let the -1 turn stand it up for a long, controlled S-curve. The 2 fade brings it back without a violent dump. The Ares produces textbook flex shots that push forward and finish clean.

🌬️

Headwind Reliable

Where the Zeus can sometimes show more turn than expected in a stiff headwind, the Ares holds its line with confidence. It's the 12-speed you reach for when the wind picks up and you still need to trust the finish.

🤚

Forehand Ready

The shallow rim and added stability make the Ares a natural forehand disc. It absorbs torque cleanly and finishes with a dependable hook. If your Zeus turns on hard sidearm rips, the Ares is the answer.

🆕

McBeth's Newest Weapon

PDGA approved February 2026, the Ares is the latest addition to Paul McBeth's signature lineup. Prototype runs generated immediate buzz among touring pros and power throwers. This mold has momentum.

Plastics

Launch

ESP (Prototype)

McBeth Series • Premium • Grippy

The debut plastic for the Ares. ESP offers Discraft's signature tacky grip with durable swirly colorways. Prototype ESP runs are the first chance to experience the mold — expect strong demand and limited availability at launch.

Z Line

Premium • Durable • Coming Soon

Discraft's most durable blend. Z Line Ares should hold stability longer than ESP and season slowly — the likely choice for players who want the Ares to stay overstable through heavy use. Expected in future runs.

Big Z

Premium • Gummy • Coming Soon

A slightly softer Z blend with bold artwork. Big Z Ares should offer comfortable grip with a touch more flex than stock Z. A popular choice for players who like the feel of Big Z Zeus. Expected in future runs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Same speed, similar rim feel, but different flight. The Zeus (12/5/-1/3) has less glide and more fade for a harder-finishing, dump-style distance line. The Ares (12/6/-1/2) adds a point of glide and softens the fade — it pushes longer and finishes more forward. The Ares also resists torque better, so it holds its line under higher power and in wind where the Zeus might show extra turn.
No. Discraft designed the Ares as a complement, not a replacement. The Zeus stays in the lineup as the faster-fading, slightly more workable distance driver. The Ares fills a new slot — more glide, more torque resistance, softer finish. Many players will bag both for different lines.
The mold started as a retooled Zeus designed for more torque resistance. It was shown at DiscEast Expo under the working title "Zeus 2.0." As the flight profile diverged from the original Zeus, Discraft gave it a distinct identity — Ares, the Greek god of war — to sit alongside Zeus in the McBeth lineup.
Going from glide 5 (Zeus) to glide 6 (Ares) means more air time and more carry. In practice, the Ares floats longer through the apex of its flight before starting to fade. That extra hang time translates to more distance without throwing harder — especially noticeable on flex lines and tailwind shots.
The 12-speed rim and stable flight favor players throwing 350+ feet. Below that, the Ares may fade out early without showing its full potential. The good news is the extra glide makes it slightly more accessible than a Zeus for intermediate arms. If you can throw a Wraith or Destroyer, you can throw the Ares.
The prototype launch is ESP only. Based on Discraft's pattern with other McBeth molds, expect Z Line, Big Z, and potentially Titanium and Z Swirl Tour Series runs to follow as the mold moves from prototype to full production. Each plastic will fly slightly different.
All three are 12-speed workhorses but fill slightly different slots. The Destroyer (12/5/-1/3) fades the hardest and varies the most run-to-run. The Emperor (12/5/-1/2.5) is the most consistent and slightly less overstable. The Ares (12/6/-1/2) brings the most glide of the three with added torque resistance — it carries longer and finishes softer. Choose based on how much glide and fade you want.
